Sally Caves

Creator of Teonaht, Reginald Barclay, and more!

Sally Caves is a conlanger, writer, artist, and academic. Sally created her language Teonaht as a young girl, and has worked on it continuously throughout her life. She was one of the original members of the Conlang-L, and helped to initiate the first conlang relay. In 2005 she initiated the first major survey of the conlang community on the Conlang-L. As a writer, she authored two Star Trek episodes: One for The Next Generation, and the other for Deep Space Nine. In the former, she created the beloved character Reginald Barclay, who has gone on to feature prominently in a number of Star Trek series and films. For much of her professional life she has been a professor of English at the University of Rochester, where she is known as Sarah Higley. As a researcher she wrote a book on Hildegard of Bingen, which was the first serious examination of Hildegard's Lingua Ignota.
